Summer Looks for Your End of Year Events

TREND: “S” wave or the “Flat Wave”

Right now, it’s hard to go past the “S” wave trend. What we love most about this look is you can wear it two different ways from the one styling session. Polished and more classic on day one and textured rock chick on day two.

The “S” wave is ideal for you to have done in salon because it’s a little tricker than most curly or wavy do’s.  There’s are few ways to create the look:

  1. Using your flat iron, create the “S” shape

  2. Using a large barrel curling tong to set in marcel style waves

How to Create the Look the flat irons

You need to have smooth and sleek hair before you start adding the waves otherwise the texture of the hair will still have its natural fluffy/static to it. Smoothing the hair first gives the best foundation for shine and hold. The preparation of the hair is very important;  the hair needs to be hydrated and have a weightless thermal protector on it prior to drying and smoothing the hair out.

If you’re creating this look at home, here are the steps:

1. Start with clean hair. Apply thermal protector and a smoothing treatment on the ends. Blow-dry the hair smooth.

2. Section the hair starting at the nape of the neck and push the hair into flat “S” bends. Lightly spray and clamp down with the iron. Work this shape down to the ends.

3. Continue up the head until you reach the top:

Tip: Hold the section of hair just below the straighteners and gently push upwards to help create a natural ‘bend’ in the hair. Use this as a guide when deciding where to clamp the straighteners.

4. When you have finished, use a light hair spray to lock the shape in and finish with an extra shine spray over the top. Once the hair has completely cooled down give your hair a gentle shake to break up the waves.

The end result should look similar to this…
