Journey of Balayage

The balayaged bombshell look, with tousled sun-kissed waves, still has plenty of va va voom under its bonnet…so how can you achieve this look? And realistically, how much work is involved?

“A word of advice… don’t expect your hair to look like this picture after the first go. You will need at least three to four balayage appointments, each of them spaced out by about four weeks, to achieve the ultimate balayage look. The more balayage a client has, the more tones and dimension of colour the hair builds” says Salon Director, Nathan Yazbek.

Below, the team at Salon Yazbek have documented the journey of Daniella’s balayage transformation over the period of four months, with four applications of balayage.

The End Result

After four applications, Daniella’s result is beautiful a balayage with pops of blonde. The balayage techniques used varied from free hand application to isolating the hair in foils to provide maximum saturation and lift.

With each application, an Aveda gloss was applied as “it is a high shine, multi tasking product. Not only does it provide intense nourishment for the hair after colouring, but also gives the balayage a multi-dimensional tone.” says Head Colourist, Gemma. “Using a shadow root technique with the glosses really creates an even yet natural blend from root to tip”

Award winning Senior Stylist, Naoki, recommends that the hair is best styled “with waves to really accentuate the beautiful ribbons of the blonde colour throughout the hair. The hair needs to be cut correctly too, with some layers and texture to compliment the colour”

So what’s our Senior Stylist, Georgia’s advice for keeping our balayaged tresses in tip top condition? “Definitely at home treatments,” she says. “Leave-in treatments such as Aveda’s Daily Remedy Hair Repair are ideal. Massaging in a 20-cent piece amount while drying the hair instantly repairs it, and the quinoa protein also helps protect the hair from heat styling.”
